(if anyone says by putting it to their mouths and swallowing, I will reach through the internet and strangle you)
Seriously, though. This is probably a little late to think about, especially since I'm going on my 4th year here in China, but I was thinking about how other people here drink their water. I'm going to order a water cooler/filtration unit as soon as the G20 is over because up until now, I've been buying bottles of Nongfu (the huge 4L bottles) but after going through one a day courtesy to a water-guzzling husband...yeah, buying water bottles is not the smartest/economical way to go.
Actually, I've heard that water here in HZ is undrinkable due to the bacteria and the heavy metals. Therefore, in the past few days, I've unearthed our ancient Brita Pitcher, stuck in a new filter and after boiling the water for a while (to kill the bacteria), I let the water cool down and then run it through the pitcher (to get rid of the heavy metals). Is this the best way to drink water in this country? There's a lot of steps involved, so that's why I'm going to give up on this and just buy the water cooler and have those huge bottles of water delivered.
But then I learned that those bottles are also difficult to trust.
I want to know what you all do. How do you cope with the lack of drinkable water in this country?
