  1. We would like to invite you to our monthly open roda this Sunday (June 3rd). All the capoeiristas are welcome to join for free. Come play capoeira and music and sing with us! If you are interested, but haven't tried capoeira before, feel free to stop by and have a look! This will be a special roda with guets from other cities and groups Time: June 3rd (Sunday) 2:00 PM Meeting point: Yu Qian Temple scenic pier (near Bapanling road, West Lake) 于谦祠码头景区(近八盘岭路及杨公堤) What is the Roda? The Roda (pronounced "ho-dar") is a circle formed by capoeiristas and capoeira musical instruments, where every participant sings the typical songs and claps their hands following the music. Two capoeiristas enter the roda and play the game according to the style required by the musical instruments rhythm. The game finishes when one of the musicians holding a berimbau determine it, when one of the capoeiristas decide to leave or call the end of the game or when another capoeirista interrupts the game to start playing, either with one of the current players or with another capoeirista. In a roda every cultural aspect of capoeira is present, not only the martial side, but music, tradition, aerial acrobatics, takedowns and much much more!

Capoeira in Hangzhou started in 2009 with a group called “Ventania”, and in 2015 the group became part of Capoeira Mandinga. At present we are the only school teaching and promoting capoeira in Hangzhou. A: Capoeira does not require that you have prior experience on any type of physical activity! Q: What if I am not flexible or not in best physical condition? A: Don’t let this discourage you! Our instructors speak English and Chinese, and are assisted in translation where necessary by students in the class.   8. Hello! My name is Alexander, I'm from Russian and been in China since 1999. Graduated in '08 in Changchun, then moved to Shanghai, where I worked in IT/internet related projects till 2014. Now in Hangzhou, working in Alibaba Group at Binjiang and by night Afro-Brazilian art Capoeira with local friends :) In Shanghai I was one of the activist and member of the board in Russian Club, non-profit organization for local Russian-speaking expats. Also among my hobbies/personal projects: podcasting (Laowaicast.ru, popular Russian podcast about Chinese recent events) and publishing/blogging (editor-in-chief in Magazeta.com). Just moved in a new apartments behind Hangzhou South Bus Station (南车站), close to Wujiang rd. subway. Hope I can make a new friends here :) See you around :)
