  2. According to the news conference of 2017 Internatioanl (Hangzhou) Trail-walk Conference, this year’s trail-walk event will take place on October 28 in Jianggan Sports Center. Registration will be available for three days starting from September 28. Compared to previous years, this year the team registration channel is no longer available; and the 5-kilometer group is for parents and children, which requires at least three to four people to register; the 15-kilometer is available for individuals to register; and for the 30-kilometer and 50-kilometer, each group needs at least four people – a mix of both male and female. The route, this year, has also been adjusted. The starting point has been moved from Hangzhou Citizen Service Center to Jianggan Sports Center and there will be two finishing points this year, one in Jianggang Sports Center and the other at Hushan Square of Xianghu Lake. The route displays Hangzhou’s notable attractions and for the first time, has connected three Qiantang bridges in one route. There are a lot of surprises this year. There will be a wealth of local products available in supply stations. Participants will not only be awarded with a race completion certificate on the spot but they will also be able to download it on the official website of International (Hangzhou) Trail-walk Conference. Exciting activities, such as rock climbing, electronic sports games, VR, and an interactive dance machine, also await participants at the finishing line. To improve both the service and experience for each participant, the organizing committee will provide everyone with full-length digital monitoring services. It is the first time for a trail-walk event to feature such technical advances, thus making the event more professionally organized. These digital chips will help monitor the progress, speed and physical condition of participants in real time. 12. Hash #176 is the Back to School Hash. Hashing is a social running and/or hiking trail event with some silly games. You can read more on our website http://www.hangzhou-hhh.org/?page_id=2. Saturday (12 September) afternoon meeting at 2:30pm about 1km N-W of the N-W corner of West Lake! Note the new autumn meeting time of 2:30pm. For this Hash event, think forested hills, scenic views, (somewhat) ancient ruins, picturesque parks, monuments and fragrant tea fields. All followed by a few drinks and frivolity (and an optional dinner together too). Walkers/Hikers and joggers/runners are all welcome. At the end of the trail (back at the start point at about 5.30 or 6pm), we expect all participants to stay for 30 - 45 minutes of fun and games (drinking and some singing - but you don't have to drink beer, if you don't want to). After that, it's up to you if you want to stay for the jolly group Bash (dinner). We do hope most people stay for the dinner. Hashes are on whether it is raining or dry, so bring a change of clothes (and maybe shoes too, if it has been raining a lot during the week before). You can leave a bag at the start point. The Hares (aka trail setters) tell me that they have another awesome Hash trail planned featuring scenic and cultural sites you might never encounter on your own. Send us an email and we will send you the full details of this week's HZH3 Hash meeting location in our current HZH3 Newsletter. 20. My job in Hangzhou is to develop a new Scouting program that will be entirely Chinese run but internationally compatible with the World Scouting Organization. That is a tall order. We are starting from scratch. I would love to draw from expats with experience in scouting to help flesh this out. We hope to have our first summer camp this summer but, that is what makes this a tall order as we do not even have any scouts yet! I have lots of experience with scouts and with setting up training programs across large regions. But everything I have experience with had a foundation already. This time, I am building the foundation and feel like I could use some help and ideas in some areas. Recruiting: This is obviously handled differently in China. Subjects: What to teach and where to get the initial instructors. I hope to get a lot of help from you guys here. What can you teach and can we make a Merit Badge for it? In your opinion, what Merit Badges suit China and which ones do not? What would you like to see in a Scouting organization? We are a corporate backed scouting movement. I am told I get a budget to play with though I have yet to be told how much. I was also just given 3000 Mu of fairly wild nature country to put our first permanent scout camp in Lishui. To help develop this I have started this post in hopes of mutual interest giving me some ideas. I will also star a coffee meeting once a week in Starbucks open to any interested in learning about this program and discus new ideas and help bring them to completion. Thanks for your interest! Please tell me what you think. Sully
