  4. I recently moved to Hangzhuo in September for my post graduate education and i am looking for a good martial arts gym or classes near my campus in Xia Sha.
  5. Hey I started getting bored of the gym and want to do something interesting to keep fit and keep me busy. I was hoping to start playing football again and also join a martial arts club. I have no experience but I'm very interested in giving it a try. I would love to do something like wing chun if I can, I'm less interested in grapples and take downs. However, as I'm new to all this any information would be appreciated. I live near east railway station, I would prefer any clubs/teachers to not be too far away. If there is somewhere near a subway station then that would be great :) Thanks, message me for my wechat if you want it :)
  6. What is Capoeira? Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance and music. It was created in Brazil mainly by descendants of African slaves with Brazilian native influences, probably beginning in the 16th century. It is known by quick and complex moves, using mainly power, speed, and leverage for leg sweeps. Try also searching YouTube for capoeira roda or just capoeira :) Now in Hangzhou! Schedule Tuesday/Thursday - 8:00pm – 9:30pm; Sunday - 6:30pm - 8:00pm new at Guodu Business Tower (Crossing of Fengqi Rd and Zhongshan Middle Rd, room 2002 (Subway: Fengqi Rd exit A1. You have to start somewhere? We start by teaching you the basic movements and you take it from there. = I HAVE NEVER TAKEN ANY TYPE OF MARTIAL ART OR DANCE CLASS. CAN I STILL TRY CAPOEIRA? Capoeira does not require that you have prior experience on any type of physical activity! = WHAT IF I AM NOT FLEXIBLE OR NOT IN BEST PHYSICAL CONDITION? Don’t let this discourage you! Capoeira is for everyone!!! Young or old, short or tall, girl or boy! Of course, the more you train, the faster you will see results! = HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN CAPOEIRA? Think of it as learning a new language. The more of the language you learn, the more clearly you can express yourself to others. If your goal is to have a conversation with someone that consists of, “Hi, how are you?” and “I am fine, thank you”, you should be able to do that within a month or two. If you plan to discuss world politics or philosophy, be prepared to spend more time learning the language. = WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? For your first class, comfortable workout wear is fine. Should you decide to sign-up, we have uniforms available for purchase. = SHOULD I BRING ANYTHING? Open mind and positive attitude! Bring a water bottle.

  9. Alright, well an old question when i was practicing leung ting wing tsun was: how to improve the power of my punches? I saw many wing chunners trying to find this power with a wall bag, or gym but in my opinion if you want that kind of penetrating power, being sharp (not muscolar or bouncing one) that Ip Man had, you should consider the following: since we are talking about wing chun, the difference in striking power lies in the type of energy and kinetics involved. Weight training that produces lactic acid or aerobic should be avoided so as static-isometric work (they're 2 different things even if sometimes people think they are the same) as from that kind of work , tensions could arise. A weight training is counterproductive because while doing it we are affected by the lactic acid and this ruin the quality of the technique bringing us far away from developing the natural Gung based from deep relaxation, that kind of power that doesn't decrease with the age. To work on this type of quality you have to "let go"and when you shoulder starts to become sore, often repeating and trying to find " another way" to move is the key...move in a way that doesn't involve your shoulder, doesn't make you tired. From this point of view an intelligent way of training your power is the work with the knifes: working on your joints or the pole.

    Taiji Zen Online Academy

Not sure if anybody is interested in this or not, since there are so many options to practice Taiji in public parks, but I thought I would pass it along. Jet Li and Jack Ma started an online Taiji training this past year in an effort to promote Taiji around the world. The first level is free, while each additional level (9 total) requires payment. After learning all the forms for each level, you can take a test and receive a certificate. I am currently doing this with my two children (7 and 5) in addition to classes at Taiji Zen Garden. If anybody is interested in the program and joining us for practice, let me know. There are a couple of benefits of doing this in a group. First, there are partner exercises that you must do in order to pass the exams. Secondly, you can split the payment for each level, so it would make it a lot cheaper. If you are not interested, then no need to comment. Check out taijizen.com for more information.
