  7. Okay so I was one of the unlucky "stupid too" ones that landed up with unethical agents called Maggie & Leo and Hangzhou Yuhang Little Doctor Art Kindergarten here in Linping. For 4 months I had endless problems with the Agents and the school owner Mrs Li. They played me like a yoyo regarding my working hours, wages, overtime, extra lesson for extra pay etc. Turns out they are best friends so no one really had any intention of assisting me and finding a solution. I have so much evidence of all their little games they played, ducking and diving and lie after lie for 4 months. Long story short I finally had enough after they breached the contract / working conditions over and over and owing me thousands they had the audacity to still try renegotiate a new contract with the conditions that I work more hours for less money. They used words like we know you love the children here so if you want to continue working here you MUST.........I refused. Then they brought in another foreigner teacher (same agent) to try intimidate me into accepting their new deal. Naturally, I refused and so I resigned handing them a 3 page letter listing all the employment conditions breached AND I was nice to give them 1 month notice. Well then the threats, intimidation etc. got even worse and the day after I resigned the "agent" Maggie fired me via text message. So here I am they threated to hurt me, cancel my visa, force me to leave China, and that the landlord will come take back my apartment bla bla bla. I'm still here and they still playing hide and seek. All I need is my money and a release letter and I'll be on my merry way but it seems in China it doesn't work this way. If anyone reading this has any advise or ideas what to do next please let me know. I'm quite happy to stay and play.

  9. Family moving to HZ

Hi, We are a family of 5 (kids age 10, 8 and 6) who are considering moving to Hangzhou. We have previously lived 5 years in Shanghai, but are now back home in Sweden for a while. We need to figure out a lot of things, such as: - are there any expat housing compounds with western standard houses? Names? - What rent levels should we expect to pay for a nice 4BR house? - What district should we look for? - good relocation agency? - what international schools are there? recommendations? - how big is the expat community in HZ? Thanks for any help! Daniel

  11. I just registered today for the Spring semester of the ZJU Language program which goes from March 16 to July 10. I came out to study at Zhejiang, and now I'm 100% committed. My problem: My very good friend is graduating from University in California on June 13th, and wanted to travel Asia with me June 18 to July 2nd. If I wanted to do these dates I would have to skip the final exams. The finals occur June 28th to July 10th. (My friend plans on starting work just after July 4th) Should I care about taking the exams? Do I need to pass them to attend the Fall semester? Ultimately I want to take HSK test and add that passing score to my resume. So, in a way, my grades at Zhejiang won't really matter. Or should I worry about the ZJU transcripts? Thoughts? Anyone know someone who skipped their finals?

  13. Hey Everyone, I lived outside Chongqing for two years teaching ESL in a University, but Ive been back home (US) for a few months now. Im looking to study Chinese in the language program at Zheda so I came here to get a feel for the expat community and read what other people have to say about the city/school. Ive also got a few questions. I'll do some searches before I post in another thread but Ill go ahead ask here just to see they get answered quick. I hope to find some work to help give me a little income and pay for living expenses. How likely is that to happen being a student? What are the living expenses like in HZ? I dont need anything ritzy at all and dont mind walking a few floors of stairs in a humble place; what does low-end rent go for? looking forward to being in one of the best cities in China (so I hear)

  16. I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences where they are able to compare training centers to schools. I feel like finding vacancies at schools is more difficult, as the training centers (or placement agencies) are the ones who post online all the time. Is there a big difference in pay? In lesson planning? Any information would be greatly appreciated!
