  5. Hello, A little background on myself: 3 years in Korea, 80% finished with my M.Ed, 6 years teaching, and a TESOL cert. I will be coming to China in October. My plan is to work for a couple years in a university setting, because here in Korea they seem to be the most sought after positions. I have been talking to many recruiters and they keep trying to get me into training schools and international schools. I have been adamant that I want a university, because i'm willing to take the cut in pay for the sake of bolstering my resume, but; Is working in a university a good job in China? Is it fairly easy to find private tutoring gigs? Is 8000/month for 18hr/week, with 5000 for flight, plus housing and insurance, a good contract? Thanks for you time! Enzo

    Excited about Hangzhou

Hi guys! Someone on a Facebook group offered me this website. It is good to know that there are other foreigners around. I will be coming to Hangzhou at the end of February. I am a senior year business administration student and will be an exchange student at Hangzhou Dianzi University. Although being really excited about Hangzhou, I have some concerns, too. First of all, I am looking for a shared flat not so away from the city center. Anyone searches for a flatmate can contact me. I also wonder job opportunities for those without Chinese. Is it likely to get a part-time job, or perhaps an internship related to my studies? Anyway, it would good to meet new people and make some friends. Cheers,

  11. Hello everyone! I'm a 19 year old girl from Belgium, studying marketing. I like studying abroad, so I've been studying in Spain and Australia for now. I might go to study in Hangzhou for 1 semester (September 2014 - January 2015). The reason why I'd like to go there is because it's going to be completely different then living in Europe, and I think it's a great experience to get to know other cultures and getting 'culture shocked'. But honestly, I'm quite scared and hesitating about going there. I've read some bad things about the Zhejiang University, that it is too far away from the city and that you easily become isolated,... Is there anyone here with experiences with this university as an exchange student? Next to that, my dad is kind of scaring me. I was in the Shangai airport last week (for a transfer from Australia to Belgium), and the security was extremely severe. I only had to be in the transit zone of the airport for about 5 hours, but they were far more severe then they were in Australia to get in the country! Next to that, the people working there were kind of rude. In Australia I was used to people being extremely friendly and helpful, while in the airport, the staff seemed to be tired, didn't speak to me, answered my question with one word, they seemed to find everything anoying. My dad also told me that China is 'dangerous'. That I might get isolated at school and that there's a chance that I won't be free to go wherever I want. That the police in China is veeeery severe, and that because of the communism you can end up in prison for very stupid things. My dad seems to be against me moving to China, that's obvious. But I'd really like to know from people living there as an exchange student/expat, how it really is... Thank you so much!!

    TOChina Business Program 2014

TOChina Business Program about to start in Hangzhou 杭州, China (applications close the 21st of February) www.chinabusinessprogram.it Dear Friends and Colleagues, for those interested in learning how to do business in/with China, here is one of the best program you can find in all Europe. The TOChina Business Program is an intensive course taught by world-class professors of business, finance, marketing and law, who work at the forefront of their fields. The program will take place from 31st March to 10th May 2014 in Hangzhou 杭州, China. For the past 30 years entrepreneurs and managers from around the world have been engaging China mostly as a destination for investment and a global industrial hub, producing – or, more often, assembling – goods for export. In several key sectors that era is now over, and in many others it will be soon. China is fast becoming itself a prime global investor, and its increasingly mature market is a key driver of global growth. Those companies – and nations – which get in-sync the soonest with this new reality will make the stronger claim for a share of the next growth cycle. The TOChina Business Program is conceived to train those who seek success in this new phase. The CBP is promoted by the University of Torino (Department of Culture, Politics and Society) and the ESCP Europe business school (Torino Campus), in partnership with Zhejiang University (Center for Italian Studies) and the Torino World Affairs Institute. Here is a link to the program's website: http://www.chinabusinessprogram.it/ And here you can download the leaflet: http://bit.ly/1ksaH7V Applications close the 21st of February. Maybe it's a little bit early to ask, but do you think that I, as a foreign student, could get a part-time job? For example in teaching English or German. And how would the salary per month approximately be. I need that information because i have to check the finances before leaving Germany. Thank you!
