  17. Bars in Xiasha

This bar is kind of a hole-in-the-wall place that not many people seem to know about. So, I thought I'd mention it here. Golden Apple Bar (金苹果音乐酒) This place has a good atmosphere, with flags from all over the world pinned onto the ceiling and funky paintings on the walls. There is usually music and the owner (Jacob) is really friendly. It's located right off of No. 4 road (address below) and is open almost every day. On holidays, there are usually a wide range of decorations and usually drink specials. Address in Chinese: 杭州下沙四号大街东海未名园白杨路27号. Phone number: 18179306399 (Fair warning: the owner can't speak English) Feel free to comment with information on other Xiasha bars you know about!
  18. Arriving 13th September

Hello! I am a 22-year-old Brit who is arriving in Hangzhou on 12 September on a scholarship to spend two semesters learning Mandarin at Zhejiang Gongshang University in Xiasha. I'm keen to try new things and meet new people so am open to social suggestions - sports, choirs, book clubs... I've also got some pragmatic questions: 1) How difficult is it to set up a bank account in China, and what would you recommend? 2) How much is a phone contract, and what would you recommend? 3) Despite being based in Xiasha I have to attend a two-day meeting by the West Lake a couple of weeks after arriving. How long would it take to make that journey, and how is best to go about it? I have a lot of questions (but then again I suppose most people do) so if anybody is willing to support me whilst I settle I would be very grateful! I'd be really keen to engage with the expat community in Hangzhou and learn from your collective wisdom. Who knows - if it all goes smoothly I may stick around for longer than a year! Thanks
  19. I am leaving China in June and need to sell my HaoJue 125cc motorcycle. I bought it used a little over a year ago and have put new front and back tires and tubes on it. Also installed a new horn, battery, front sprocket, rear wheel damper, and did regular oil changes on it every 500km or so. I've never had a problem with the bike and it runs good and gets great mileage. I ride it almost exclusively here in Xiasha, to school and home each day and to the Wumei area but I have taken it into the main city and as far away as Cangqian. There is no registration (i.e. license plate) for this bike but I've never had a problem with the police. You can call or text me at 15658076298. 1800rmb or best offer. Thanks. -Adam
  20. PEOPLE OF XIASHA UNITE!!

  21. Hello! Made a post a little bit ago about a job in Xiasha just wanted to throw it out once more, as well as another part time job that I got asked to do but not sure if I can. Xiasha job 1) Location: google maps it (yes that is a verb). This is the nearest cross street, it is Jing Rong college in Hangzhou, Xiasha district: Xueyuan St wenhui road Jianggan, Hangzhou, Zhejiang China‎ 2) Teaching hours are 3 hours one day a week. Not sure what day you would have to discuss that with them. 3) The students are 18-22 (it's a college). I had some 20 student classes and some 50 student classes. They are interactive and fun (the classes they are wanting to be taught are my two favorite from last year, sang lots of pop songs/whatever song I wanted with them and would do mini skits in class). 4) I believe pay is between anywhere from 350 to 500 RMB a day, don't know your experience you'd have to talk about it with the school. 5) They are nice people! No need to speak Chinese here, no assistant teacher in the classroom, have to give one exam a semester (at least that's what I did). 6) I had no class room experience when I started working here. So if you are already a teacher here or have done tutoring great. Jiubao job 1) Location: google maps it (it is the first location given or A). It is at the Jiu Bao subway stop 30 minutes from Hangzhou tower by the metro: subway stop near jiubao hangzhou 2) My teaching hours were 3 hours monday, wednesday, and friday 2-5. They said that I could do more if I wanted, I'm sure you could discuss it with them and figure out how it fits your schedule. 3) The students are young anywhere from 8 to 11 mine were almost all 9 and 10. Class size is about 16 to 20 students and they are pretty well behaved for little kids. 4) Pay is 500 RMB a day. So I guess monthly an extra 6,000 for 9 hours a week. 5) I can speak some Chinese and I was fine in the classroom. If you can't speak Chinese they have assistant teachers who can help you out. Any given student in there can say hello how are you nice to meet you, numbers, colors, and what not, but beyond that their English is pretty poor. 6) Experience needed, I am not sure, I have taught for one year and tutored little kids; I was a coach and a camp counselor back in the states, but not really a whole lot of experience. I'm sure you (gestures vaguely into the Hangzhou smog) would do fine. Sorry if I seem a little robotic in the post, just wanted to make it as clear as possible, saw a post by Mr. Zheng and thought it was good advice. I am not the person offering these jobs just trying to be a bridge, if you don't want to reply on here for whatever reason, my number is 15nine2 562 6342 or you can email me at Lark.mason3@gmail.com Best of luck in your job search (again gestures wife looking at him askance).
  22. Hello, This is my first post so sorry if I somehow commit a Hangzhou Expat internet party foul. I was offered a part time job at the school I worked at last year but I can not do it as I am now living downtown. The school is Jing Rong University at the wen hui bei lu and xue yuan jie intersection(文汇北路 学源路口)。 The pay offered to me was 500 yuan for 2 classes or about 3 hours one day a week. If you contact me quickly I am sure that they will be able to arrange the classes around your schedule. Great pay not much work. 166 per hour or if your still on American money around 25 an hour. Teaching starts around the end of this month or the beginning of September. I would do it but it would take too long to get there. Anybody interested in teaching at this school just shoot me a reply and I will put you in touch with the head teacher over there. Lark Here is the google maps internet address if you would rather input this in the search bar then the cross street. http://ditu.google.cn/maps?newwindow=1&safe=strict&q=jing%20rong%20university&bav=on.2,or.&bvm=bv.50500085,d.dGI,pv.xjs.s.en_US.ciY8R2R6XC8.O&biw=1002&bih=659&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=zh-CN&sa=N&tab=wl
