Expat from UK to Hangzhou bay

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am from the UK, British Indian with a masters degree and over 10 years of professional experience. I have just been offered a job with an automobile company to work as a senior manager in the Hangzhou bay area.

I need your support in shortlisting the best neighborhoods to stay, hang out and meet other expats.

I understand my office is closer to Ningbo than Hangzhou. But I am looking for tips on accommodation in or around Hangzhou - 2 bedrooms, living, dining and 2 bathrooms - service apartments or fully furnished incl bills, etc for under CNY 10,000. The apartment shall be paid for by the company.

Let me know if it is a hassle to commute to Hangzhou bay every day and if there are better areas to live around hangzhou bay.

I am looking forward to start work in March 2019 and hopefully meet up with some of you in the new year.

Thanks,

Amit.

Hello Amit,

How are you?  I am from USA and have been living in the area for a year now.  I also have family friends here for 10 generations.  I would be glad to assist you with the process.  You can email me directly at mnr3667@gmail.com.  Let's chat!  I will let my other friends from England know you are heading this way as well. :)

Alright, lets get a few things sorted. I was confused first off when you said Hangzhou "bay" area. Hangzhou isn't near the ocean, so how is it a bay area? There is no bay area because you  aren't in Hangzhou, you are basically in NingBo because NingBo is next to the ocean and that is a completely different city. They are attracting you by using the allure of Hangzhou to make it seem like a nicer area, but don't be fooled any further, you are NOT in Hangzhou, nor the Hangzhou area.

Now, when they say to you "only x amount of hours away from hangzhou" its because of the high speed railway but it isn't close and that'll affect you day to day living when you want to find something good to eat but nothing but the shitty local food around. You'll have a convenient weekend getting to Hangzhou though where you can enjoy yourself. If you like boring, NingBo is where it's at.

U are spending way too much energy in this... Especially for somebody with a masters degree.... One would have thought that he could actually use Google maps to see the difference between the two cities.

He mentioned its closer to nb than hz, so maybe he is in some crappy city between shaoxingyans nb?

hi Guys & Gals,

thanks for your replies. Happy New Year.

Yes, the office is near the sea link towards Shanghai; far away from Hangzhou and Ningbo.

I am just worried that the place is secluded after work hours and no one to socialize with.. please see image for office location.

Also, whats the best area to stay and commute to work. every bit of info and help is welcome guys..

regards,

Amit.

Well, you are in Ningbo, not Hangzhou. I cross Hangzhou bay bridge from time to time when I was living in SH but never stopped on this side but I don’t remenber anything else than a giant industrial zone (with one of the biggest coal power station in the world), the other side is not Shanghaï either it’s Jiaxing (Zhejiang too), 100km south of SH city center and even south district of Hangzhou seem a little bit far. You should look for something more inside the land in Ningbo, don’t really now the city so I can’t tell you which side you should look at, sorry.

    • I'm leaving China for a couple of months and would like to offer my apartment for rent whilst I'm away till mid-March. Single apartment in Xiasha next to Jinshahu mall (Vanguard, Zara, Bershka.etc) and  right by Jinshahu subway line 1. Super convenient patch, 2500rmb/month, no agent fee. If interested let me know, could possibly arrange for long term rent afterwards.
    • I'll check for their opening hours that day.  Beer and fun at 7:00am on the 4th... Cheers!
    • There will be an available room near Ant Financial office and Zhejiang University  Yuquan Campus (浙江玉泉校区) from February 9th. The room is in a fully furnished shared apartment. The room has a big closet and many bookshelves/dividers. It's 10 minutes walk  from Line 2 Fengtan Road Metro Station (丰潭路-地铁站)and 2 minutes walk from the Bus stop (文三西路丰潭路口-公交站). Cleaning lady cleans the apartment once a week. Rent fee is flexible. For more info, please send me a personal message.
    • I decided to call up a friend of mine who is a cop. They are already planning to get rid of the electric bikes before the Asia games. So right now you can register one until 2021, then you won't be able to register one anymore. The reason, the biggest accidents in China are being caused by the fucking e-bikes. The big truck that had trees on it that fell on 3 people because of an e-bike crossing illegally was the straw that broke the camels back!
    • So, at the end of the day, Foreigners can actually own and ride Motorcycles in HZ  but just not the restricted areas yeah?
